"American Indian and Alaska Native Genetics Research Policy Formulation Meeting"

The ELSI program, together with NIGMS, provided funding for an American Indian and Alaska Native Genetics Research Policy Formulation Meeting, which was held in Rio Rancho, New Mexico on February 7-9, 2001. Twenty-nine individuals participated in the meeting, of which about half were Natives and about half were non-natives from various institutions and agencies. The purpose of the meeting was to begin the process of creating documents that could be instructive to both tribal communities and researchers about the conduct of genetics research studies.
