    Principal Investigator(s): Myers, Richard

Institution: Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics

    FOA Number: N/A

    Abstract

The Cynthia Keleher R01 grant (see KELEHER, Cynthia) was folded into the Stanford GESTEC. The goals of the education core of the GESTEC are to: develop and present a high school curriculum that integrates laboratory experiments and social/ethical issues; develop and conduct a professional development program for teachers who will use the curriculum; establish and maintain mobile laboratory kits that can be used by teachers; create a model program to bring scientists into the classroom; facilitate the development of partnerships between teachers, industry, universities, and the community; provide tours of the genome center to students, teachers and the general public; hold school open houses; and modify the curriculum for use in two local science museums. The ultimate aim of the project is to educate high school teachers, students and the general public to recognize the impact of genetic science on their lives and to help them make informed decisions based on this knowledge.
