Job Description
- Coordinates responses to request for education on ethics consultation including developing and providing education materials and education sessions.
- Collaborates with other Integrated Ethics Staff to develop educational materials and training for VHA staff, including coordination with the Ethics Consultation Co-Chairs, the Preventive Ethics Chair, and the Ethics Leadership Chair (SLVHCS Director)
- Represent IEPO at VHA meetings, conferences and workshops as approved. Gives presentations and facilitates discussion to contribute to understanding of ethics consultation.
- Identify the nature of the values uncertainty or conflict that underlies the need of the ethics consultation, discern and gather relevant data (e.g. medical facts, patients' references and interests, and other parties' preferences and interests).
- Identifies, obtains and analyzes needed information and, independently or in collaboration with others, writes clear, concise and complete responses to ethics consultations.
- Plans and executes special projects or studies to analyze, evaluate, and to provide recommendations on resolving ethical challenges that arise in relation to programs or issues.
- Serves as an expert in healthcare ethics and will provide consultative guidance on clinical, organizational and research ethics issues to SLVHCS to field-based ethics consults, following established processes for ethics consultations in VHA.
- Must be familiar and comfortable with diversity among patients, staff, and institutions and address it in relation to an ethics consultation.
- Performs program support work, such as planning and assisting with ethics training program administration.
