GeneWatch UK is a nonprofit policy research and public interest group that monitors the impact of genetic technologies on food, health, agriculture, environment, and society. GeneWatch UK is funded by charitable trusts, the European Commission, commissioned work, and donations and is headed by Executive Director, Helen Wallace.
The Human Hereditary and Health in Africa (H3Africa) consortium includes 51 projects led by African scientists that use genetic, clinical, and epidemiologic methods to identify hereditary and environmental contributions to non-communicable and communicable diseases.
This project will develop a nine-week module to be used in the biology curriculum for high school students, as part of the NIH/ADAMHA Science Education Partnership awards. The module, 'Molecular Genetics and Human Affairs' will teach the structure of DNA and include activities focused on the organization, replication, and utilization of the information of DNA, using humans as a model system. Students will learn how to clone a gene and how to analyze a gene at the molecular level.
