This program will serve its mission to promote responsible research in DRC and in Francophone Africa by consolidating the Center Interdisciplinaire de Bioethique pour l'Afrique Francophone (CIBAF) at the Kinshasa School of Public Health (KSPH) and by leveraging CIBAF's resources to enhance ethics capacity locally, regionally and internationally.
Ms. Christi Guerrini is research faculty in the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). BCM is a premier academic health science center known for excellence in education, research, and patient care. The BCM main campus is located in the Texas Medical Center, which is the largest medical center in the world. The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at BCM was established in 1982 and has created an academic culture defined by and supportive of collaborative research and teaching.
The emergence of genomic medicine has not been without unique concerns that continue to challenge clinicians working in this arena. Genomic test results have implications for individuals other than the person tested. Related to this, interpretation of genomic data often requires several related individuals; and even then what can be known about the meaning of an individual's specific variants is, and will continue to be, a function of big data analysis of the genomic data of many thousands (or even millions) of individuals.
