Session title: An Overview of Pharmacogenomic Testing (PGx) from an ELSI, Psychology, and Psychiatry Perspective

Duke Margolis Institute for Health Policy and CERA Collaboration

This ELSIconversations session provided an in-depth exploration of pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing within the realm of mental health care, delving into the associated ethical, legal, and social considerations. This session introduced PGx testing, examining its relevance for minorities and stigmatized disorders, and its potential in mitigating the global mental health crisis. We invited participants to delve into questions concerning access and the promotion of culturally sensitive practices in psychiatric care. What strategies enhance the representation of historically marginalized populations in the evidence used to validate PGx tests? What safeguards are necessary to ensure that clinicians adequately balance PGx testing with other assessment methods?
