-Provides clinical ethics consultation services for MedStar Union Memorial Hospital (MUMH) and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital (MGSH) and may rotate with other members of the John J. Lynch, MD Center for Ethics to provide ethics consultation coverage for MedStar Washington Hospital Center and/or other designated MedStar hospitals.
-Contributes to performance improvement and peer review initiatives to maintain and improve high quality clinical ethics consultation services.

Wellstar’s Ethics Consultation Service is one of the largest and most active services in the nation (over 850 consults in fiscal year 2021-2022, across nine hospitals, three inpatient hospice facilities, three skilled nursing facilities, and numerous outpatient sites). Most fellows participate in >200 consults by the end of their first year.
The aim of the Wellstar Fellowship in Clinical Ethics is to promote advanced competencies in our fellows such that graduates are prepared for employment as clinical ethicists or ethics program leaders in a variety of healthcare settings.
This two-year, full-time, non-ACGME program is designed to offer the necessary training for graduates to be able to deliver quality ethics consultation and engage in other fundamental clinical ethics activities.

The Clinical Ethicist contributes to initiatives that support the continuing evolution of integrated ethics programming at Children’s Health System of Texas (CHST). The incumbent is responsible for collaborating with the Program Director for Integrated Ethics and other members of the Integrated Ethics department in developing and implementing strategies aimed at enhancing the ethical climate of Children’s Health, promoting the moral agency of team members, and effectively strengthening CHST’s moral community.
We seek a candidate who will dedicate most of their time (currently scheduled for 0.75 FTE) to serving the clinical enterprise through clinical ethics consultation, service to two major medical centers (UAMS and ACH), and education of clinical faculty, staff, and housestaff. Candidates for this position should have at least two years of clinical ethics consultation experience. Interest in and ability to direct the consult service is a plus.
