The John J. Lynch, MD Center for Ethics at MedStar Washington Hospital Center is seeking applicants for the position of Staff Clinical Ethicist. The successful applicant will expand one of the most active ethics consultation services (~500 consultations a year) and longest running hospital ethics programs (since 1982) to MedStar’s Baltimore hospitals: MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital.

The Institute for Bioethics & Health Humanities (IBHH) at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) invites applications for Clinical Ethics Fellowship, part of our broader Visiting Scholars Program, which provides intensive training in clinical ethics consultation in a variety of health care settings and diverse patient populations, including critical care, pediatrics, OBGYN, etc. The Fellow will learn a relational approach to ethics consultation informed by the health humanities.

Prenatal screening and testing technologies using genetic methods are rapidly expanding, offering increasing amounts of genetic information about the fetus. However, research shows that women from underserved populations are less likely to receive or accept prenatal genetic services, leading to discordant birth outcomes. We propose to explore the barriers to access and acceptance of prenatal genetic care among women from underserved populations.
